The Businessman

Roar Dons grew up with the industrial company A/S Pellerin, founded as the first Nordic Margarine Factory in 1876. Since 1926, the company was led by his grandfather (Roar Dons) and later his father (Karl Jacob Dons).

In 1995 the production of margarine was not profitable in Northern Norway anymore, and the margarine factory was closed. An era was over.

Roar Dons’ big goal was to bring A/S Pellerin back to its glory days as an industrial company – without margarine. Pellerin had a number of properties in its portfolio and this was the new direction for the company.

During 20 years Roar Dons built up a local real estate company that today is worth half a billion NOK; The property portfolio consists of about 65,000 sqm commercial premises in Tromsø as well as plots with a significant development potential.

Roar is the Leader of the Supervisory Board of Northern Norway’s biggest bank, an Honorary Consul of Denmark and a Knight 1st Class of the Order of the Dannebrog.

The story of The Edge

The Edge was Pellerin’s breakthrough project as a full scale city developer.

Pellerin had what I believe to be the best plot in Tromsø and we wanted to build a hotel! This was in 2004 – and we quickly got 7,000 signatures AGAINST the first project we proposed. We waited and I tried to learn from it as well, although it was hard to meet so much resistance in your own hometown.

I wanted to develop a building that made Pellerin and Tromso known for first class property. Eventually we realized that we had to cooperate with the best to make the next step.

We established a partnership with Aspelin Ramm and together we aimed to develop a truly world class project in Tromso! The goal was fulfilled; The Edge became Tromsø’s new meeting place and my great pride!
